I was in a place I can no longer stand to be in and so I ran away from everyone and everything and found myself here in San Francisco
Hi my name is Ronni Lynn Owens a.k.a. Angie Owens and I want to start by telling you a little bit about myself I am originally from grants Pass Oregon I grew up there most of my life. I went to school college and worked there as a cashier at a little market in gold hill Oregon for many years. I had five children a husband and even grandchildren.
I grew up poor and as a kid dealt with poverty addiction and other struggles. I guess I will start from the beginning where my addiction issues first started when I was 17 years old I was already having to try to overcome addiction and rape issues along with the death of a loved one and then the loss of a child that resulted from the rape.
I dealt with years of physical abuse from the father of my two children as well as the suicide of my first love and father of my son a lot of hardships contributed to the start of my battles I went through that led me to where I am now. I was married and worked long hours as a cashier and went to college to support myself and pay the bills.
I was truly happy I thought and at this point I had sobriety and felt like I could overcome anything. Later on, things began to fall apart my sons father committed suicide the loss of my grandparents and my husband having an affair where the start of my downfall that has led me to where I am now I felt like I had lost everything I loved and worked so hard to build and I couldn’t deal with the pain I was feeling so I self-medicating until I was in a place I can no longer stand to be in and so I ran away from everyone and everything and found myself here in San Francisco.
I thought I could start over and forget my past I thought if I ran away that I could forget who I was and become a whole new person so that is when I became Angie. I thought if I left everything behind I could start over and somehow find peace I was wrong I tried for a while to start fresh and make a new life here and at first I thought I had but then I found myself in a downward spiral once again that inevitably lead me to where I am today the problem was that I was too scared to die but too afraid to keep on living anymore.
then found a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel by working with UMBP intake on fixing my past my credit and myself Help self-help meetings counseling trying to become a normal member of society. I want to better my future and ensure that one day I can have financial stability and peace of mind I don’t want to struggle like my parents did when I was a kid and how my kids are today. I want something different something better something I can be proud of that my kids and their kids can learn from and maybe someday be proud. I wish more than anything I could turn back time and do things differently but for now I’m just trying to survive and become a better person with a new attitude and a new dream.
